If you aren’t using a Password Manager, Are you already pwned?

Passwords are a key part of how you access data and applications to run your operations. As such, your passwords should be managed with care. With the growing number of cyber crimes and data breaches, it’s more important than ever to have a robust password management system in place. Password management services provide businesses with the tools they need to create, store, and manage passwords securely. Let’s discuss the basics of password management services and why they are important for businesses.

What is Password Management?
Password management is the process of creating, storing, and managing passwords in a secure manner. This includes generating unique passwords for each account or service a user can access, as well as securely storing those passwords. It also involves setting up security protocols such as two-factor authentication (also called MultiFactor Authentication / MFA) or biometric authentication for additional protection. A password manager can help you manage all your passwords from one central location.

When implementation, configuration, and management are done correctly, password management tools can provide pro-business benefits, including increased security, reduced IT costs, improved productivity, automated maintenance tasks, strong encryption standards, and more.

What cyber dangers can Password Management help a business avoid?

  • Unauthorized access to accounts and data
  • Phishing scams
  • Account hijacking
  • Social Engineering attacks
  • Malware threats, including ransomware and spyware
  • Data theft or leakage

Why use a Password Management tool?

  1. Keeps Your Passwords Safer
One of the primary reasons to use a password management service is to keep your passwords safe. If you use the same password for multiple accounts, a hacker only needs to obtain your password once in order to gain access to all of your accounts. A password management service can help to prevent this by generating and storing strong, unique passwords for each of your online accounts.
  2. Makes It Easy to Use Strong Passwords
Another reason to use a password management service is that it can make it easy to use strong passwords. Many people choose weak passwords because they are easy to remember, but this makes it easy for hackers to guess your password and gain access to your account. A password management service can generate strong passwords that are difficult for hackers to guess, and it can also store these passwords so that you don’t have to remember them yourself.
  3. Helps You Stay Organized
A password management service can also help you stay organized by keeping track of all of your passwords in one place. This can be especially helpful if you have a large number of online accounts. Instead of trying to remember all of your different passwords, you can simply log into your password management service and have all of the information you need at your fingertips.
  4. Saves You Time
Another benefit of using a password management service is that it can save you time. If you are constantly having to reset your password or look up forgotten passwords, a password manager can help to streamline the process by storing all of your information in one place. This can save you valuable time that you can then spend on more important tasks.
  5. Helps Protect Your Identity
If a hacker gains access to your account and changes your password, a password manager can help you quickly regain control of your account by resetting your password for you. Additionally, many password managers offer two-factor authentication, which adds an extra layer of security by requiring you to enter a code from your phone in addition to your password when logging into an account.

Password management tools – implementation and maintenance

When implementing a password manager for your business there are several key factors that should be considered beforehand.

  • Compatibility – It is important to ensure that the password management service you choose is compatible with your current technology and systems.
  • Cost – Although it shouldn’t be your first consideration, we understand that cost is always a factor. Different password manager services offer a range of features and prices. It is important to choose one that meets the needs of your business budget.
  • Ease of use – Your employees should be able to quickly and easily use the system with minimal training.
  • Security – The service you choose should offer robust security measures such as two-factor authentication or biometric authentication.
  • Maintenance – The password manager should be regularly updated to ensure that your passwords are protected from the latest threats. Additionally, consider a service that offers helpful technical support in case you experience any problems with the system.

Wrapping it up
Password managers provide businesses with an effective way to create unique credentials that are robust enough to hold up against attacks while still being easy enough for users to remember them without difficulty. Investing in reliable password managers is essential if you want your business operations to mitigate the danger of successful cyber attacks.

2025 – The Only Constant is Change

It seems that January to December flies by quicker the older we get. It certainly seems quick when refreshing hardware and software. For many clients, we are reaching out for many reasons to refresh both this January.

In October of this new year, Microsoft will be retiring Windows 10. Being as I personally love Windows 10, I am typing this post on a laptop I have had for way too long running Windows 10. It just works. Every other operating system upgrade Microsoft has historically done has been less that great. Windows ME, Windows Vista, Windows 8, etc. While I am growing fond of Windows 11, the only constant is change in technology. And so, we have from now until October to get our clients ready. If you haven’t received an email yet, we will be reaching out to discuss.

SonicWall is retiring their SOHO unit as well this year. Already the services have been marked up way too high as the manufacturer tries to force clients to the latest Gen7 firewalls with a drastically different user interface that many don’t like. Clients have until their renewal to upgrade their devices or find unsupported, less protected devices at the edge of their networks.

Servers, firewalls, workstations, even switches are all looking to end of life in 2025. Is your business prepared, budgeted, and ready?

We will have a busy year in 2025 getting clients ready for the inevitable change that keeps coming. That is why we are here. We don’t have a huge sales team pushing solutions down your throat. But we are knowledgeable about what is needed to sustain your business from the start of 2025 until the end and beyond.

Site Revamp – What We Do

It was apparent that we never dedicated the time or energy to properly convey what C&T Solutions, Inc. did for our customers.  It was always a long story and one I will still tell the captive audience.

Tim Bailey and Charles Terrell started C&T Solutions, Inc. in 2011 out of a desire to do what we love and control the quality of our output and relationships we formed.  We decided we were going to install quality technology that performs and is easily serviced and supported.  Tim came from the restaurant background and Charles came from the IT background.  This synergy came at a crucial time for both the restaurant and the iT Services vertical.

Restaurants were moving from proprietary technology to general compute with open architectures.  But nobody was focused on security, hardening of systems, PCI compliance, etc.  Charles brought a unique viewpoint to this industry and began offering enterprise-level solutions to restaurants including VPN, multi-factor authentication, network segmentation, enterprise email systems, data redundancy and backup, and iP telephony.

Tim brought a wealth of knowledge from the restaurant industry that easily transferred to the IT services model including hardware installation, cabling, customer service, and a brilliant aptitude for finding the solutions that made sense for the customer.

C&T Solutions has two main focuses today, as it did in 2011.  On this site you will see IT Managed Services and Restaurant Services.  For almost all IT Managed Services listed on our site, we have installed, configured, and battle tested in both restaurants, small businesses, and local government.  You will see a theme of security in everything we do as well.  If we cannot secure it, we will not provide it to our clients.

We hope you enjoy our new site.  We welcome any questions you have about C&T Solutions, Inc.
